CONGRATULATIONS

Becky Hugget is now a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver.

UK DIVING

Last weekend saw the first Lochaline trip and this weekend saw the first St. Abb's dives, of 2008.

Lochaline was enjoyed, by all, for the lovely weather, great dives including: seals on the first dive and "nudibranch mania" and the outstanding catering of Elaine a.k.a. dive auntie...the cooked breakfast returns!

St. Abb's had 12 metre visibility and conditions like a millpond.  On all of the dives at least one buddy pair saw wolf fish.  On one dive Chris and Tom saw 5!....photographic evidence below.  One another dive Amy (now know as 'Amy-better-photographer-than-Simon-Malham) saw a rare Lumpsucker and Chris saw a beautiful Butterfish, also shown below.

If you are interested in joining us at St. Abb's or on a weekend trip please call us on (0131) 220 3636 or send an email to info@deepbluescuba.co.uk.  A list of all the 2008 trips is also on the UK diving page of this web site.

OVERSEAS TRIPS

We have arranged a summer trip to Dahab in the Red Sea, Egypt. With its laid back atmosphere and world class diving Dahab is always a popular dive destination.

The trip will run from Wednesday 18 to Wednesday 25 June 2008.

For more information check out the diving abroad page of this web site.

DRY COURSES
The Enriched Air Diver course can now be achieved without doing the course dives. This change has been made as the dives did not include any skills, with contents analysis and dive planning being discussed on shore, prior to the dive. Obviously these skills can be taught just as effectively in the classroom.

During the course you will learn about the physiological effect of oxygen, during your dive, and about the special considerations that you must account for during your dive planning. You will also learn how to analyse the contents of gas mixes.

Your certification will enable you to obtain enriched air fills and to dive safely on Enriched Air.

Deep Blue Scuba can provide Enriched Air on many of our dive trips and on shore dives.

This course will cost £95 including your own manual, 32% and 36% Enriched Air dive planners, Equivalent Air Depth table and certification fees.

Next course - Wednesday 27.02.08 (evening course)

Many of you own some or all of your dive equipment and the Equipment Specialist course will teach you how many of these items work and how to care for your kit. If you have ever wondered what the inside of your 1st stage looks like or how your cylinder is tested then this is the course for you.

We will split the course time between a theory session and a hands on session, at Edinburgh Dive Centre. During the hands on session you will learn more about cylinder hydrostatic testing as well as being able to check out the working parts of regulators and other items of equipment.

This course will cost £95 including your own manual and certification fees .

Dates on application.

Deep Blue Scuba is a Project AWARE patron and we all feel strongly about the protection of the marine environment. As the old cliché goes ‘information is power’ and for this reason we will be completing the Project AWARE speciality course.

This course will teach you about the plight of the marine environment and what you can do to help protect it. Just think, if each of you make small changes to your attitude towards and interaction with this environment then we will all have the opportunity to enjoy it for that much longer.

This course will cost £50 including your own manual and certification.
Course will run in conjunction with the MCS beach clean ups - see project AWARE page for dates.

Proceeds from this course will be donated to theProject AWARE foundation.

All of these certifications can be use towards your Master Scuba Diver Certification. Perhaps some of you will finish 2008 as new Master Scuba Divers?

Please give the office a call 0131 220 3636 or send us an email info@deepbluescuba.co.uk if you would like information on any of the dry courses, Master Scuba Diver or to book yourself up.

KIDS COURSES
We have taught a number of children’s courses, in previous years: from bubblemaker and seal team to junior open water, junior advanced open water and specialities. These courses were very enjoyable for both the children and the staff and we (the staff) would like to congratulate the next generation of divers.

Further detials of courses availible to children can be found on the kids stuff page of this web site.

If you have or know of a child who you think would enjoy scuba diving please get in touch to find out about the available courses.

In addition to teaching courses for individuals Deep Blue Scuba also teach courses for Edinburgh Council and Edinburgh Community Education, amongst others.

OUR YOUNGEST CERTIFIED OPEN WATER DIVER

On Saturday 19 May Alisdair Gamble completed his junior open water diver, becoming the youngest diver to be certified by Deep Blue Scuba.  Alisdair progressed through the Seal Team and Master Seal Team programmes, earning excellent dive skills, but his goal was always to get to open water.  Completing the course exam on his 10th birthday shows his dedication to becoming a PADI diver.

With the help of Phil, Jan and Paul he achieved his goal, showing an outstanding grasp of dive skills and passing with flying colours.  Congratulations Alisdair!
